My Own Expression of Appreciation to Hospital Workers
To Hospital Staff,
I am writing this open letter to express my deepest gratitude for the tireless service you provide to the communities that you serve every single day. While my interactions with at Calgary-based hospitals are brief, lasting only an hour or two every few weeks, they have given me a profound appreciation for the environment you work in. When I visit various hospitals strictly to undertake estate planning legal work with patients and their families, and even within those short windows, the weight of the hospital environment is deeply palpable.
During my limited time on these few hospitals, I often find myself witnessing the raw, heavy realities of illness, uncertainty, and grief. What strikes me most during my visits is the realization that while I am merely scratching the surface of the hospital experience, the real, monumental work is being carried out by every single one of you. You do not have the luxury of walking away after two hours; instead, you remain on the front lines, anchoring a system that people depend on during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Your resilience in the face of constant emotional and physical demands is nothing short of extraordinary.
I want to explicitly acknowledge that this monumental effort belongs to the entire hospital ecosystem. My gratitude extends to the doctors and nurses who provide critical clinical care and comfort under immense pressure, but it equally goes out to everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes. The dedication of the cleaning staff who maintain a safe, sterile environment, and the food preparation teams who ensure patients receive daily nourishment, does not go unnoticed.
