Christopher Neufeld: Calgary Lawyer for Personalized Wills & Estate Planning
Securing Your Family's Future through Strategic Inheritance Planning & Tax Optimization
When it comes time to dealing with your personal finances (and business succession) in the event a tragic or untimely incident, it is important to put in place the appropriate estate plan. Whether that involves a basic will, with a power of attorney and personal directive, or more complex estate planning (and business succession planning) that aims to legitimately minimize its tax liability and meet other legal challenges. This makes for a very technical area of legal practice, which intersects with the need to working with individuals, such as yourself, who are looking to make the appropriate plans to secure their inheritance and protect their family should they not be capable of doing so themself.
In truth, it is a very interesting area of legal practice, as it allows me to engage with people, like yourself, who have worked, and continue to work, to secure the interests of their family, with my role to make that possible when they are no longer capable of doing so, and in the most efficient means - both structurally and from a tax perspective. Yet, it is working with people like yourself that is the most intriguing part of this legal work, given that my role is to advance what you have worked so hard to achieve, will assess different scenarios to deal various contingencies (together with the tax structuring element).
This allows me to draw upon my 25+ years of legal practice, which includes substantial periods of legal practice in both New York City and Ontario, with my current legal practice being focused on Calgary, Alberta (I remain licensed to practice law with both the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Ontario). Meanwhile, my legal practice in the realm of wills, estate planning and probate effectively draws upon my legal experience in the areas of corporate law and tax structuring, given their interplay in more complex estate planning work and business succession planning (which can involve the disposition or transitioning out of an operating business). And it is the planning and structuring involved in the particular area of legal practice that continues to make it intriguing and challenging, especially as I do like working with people on developing the appropriate plans for them to get the most from their life's work, while appropriately protecting themself and their family.
From attaining my undergraduate university degree at York University in Toronto, to a graduate degree in Delhi University in India and law school at the University of Western Ontario, in London, with a specialization in tax; my legal career has seen me practice law for over five years in each of New York City and Toronto, with the last fifteen years practicing law in Calgary, Alberta (while raising our own family in this absolutely wonderful province). Meanwhile, my legal work in the area of wills, estate planning, and even probate, proves to be some of the most fulfilling legal work that I do undertake, probably in large part due to the people that I meet with and endeavor to create the optimal legal arrangements to effect the transference of their inheritance and institute appropriate legal protections for them and their family.
